DALLAS — It’s one of those events in a young girl’s life she will always remember: Her high school prom.

Some North Texas girls are getting a chance to pick out a prom dress free of charge, thanks to the generosity of a Dallas dress shop and a local non-profit.

For girls from Dallas’ Carter High School, it’s a shopping spree they won’t soon forget.

They are looking for a dress; not just any dress, but the dress for one of the most important events in their young lives.

Whatchamacallit Fashions is donating more than $70,000 worth of prom dresses to the Buzzfree Promises Giveaway.

The organization provides dresses to more than 200 North Texas high school girls who pledge to remain drug and alcohol free on prom night.

“Not only does this promote healthy behavior, it provides a prom experience to girls who otherwise might not be able to go to prom,” said Meredith Hargrove from the BuzzFree Promises Giveaway.

“This is our way of giving back,” said Gary Graham from Whatchamacallit Fashions.

The girls are so excited when they find that special one — you see that sparkle.

It’s a magical moment for the young girls getting their first glimpse of the dress they’ll wear to a prom night they’ll long remember.

“You wait 12 whole years for this… this is important,” said Dora Gbenjen.
