Hip-hop sensation Lil Wayne is coming to Allen, TX! Wayne will make his inaugural appearance at the Allen Event Center with a concert in the arena, Thursday, January 7 at 7:30 pm. Charismatic southern rapper Lil Wayne has quickly become one of the hottest hip hop artists of his generation. Wayne has sold more than six million units in his career, with his last release, Tha Carter III, exceeding 2.5 million copies, a million of which were sold in its first week on the market. His number one hit Lollipop spent several weeks on top of Billboards Hot 100 chart, and a slew of awards recognize his talent. In 2009 alone, Wayne has won “Best Male Hip Hop Artist” from the BET Awards, and won the “Best Rap Song” GRAMMY for Lollipop.
The twenty-seven-year-old New Orleans native was born Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. Also known as Weezy, he got his start at age 15 with the Cash Money Records group Hot Boys, along with Juvenile, Turk and B.G., but quickly established himself as a solo artist with the release of Hot Block in 1999, an album that went double platinum. He has collaborated or appeared with various artists including Birdman, Destinys Child, Shakira, T-Pain, Jay-Z and Kanye West, among others. Lil Wayne was mentored by fellow rapper and owner of Cash Money Records, Bryan Birdman Williams, and his brother Ronald Slim Williams. In 2006, Lil Wayne and Birdman successfully released an album together titled Like Father, Like Son.
