LEWISVILLE, Texas – Police in Lewisville are searching for the men who robbed a jewelry store and made off with millions of dollars worth of coins and jewelry.

One of the robbers pretended to be a customer at Harold’s Jewelers Monday morning. He knocked on the store’s window as the clerk was setting up the display cases. He asked to drop off a watch for repair and then pulled out a gun when the clerk opened the door, police said.

“The guy produced a handgun, took him into the store and emptied the safes, taking an estimated $6 million plus in coins and jewelry,” said Capt. Jay Powell.

A second man joined in. Police said the pair locked the clerk in the bathroom, stole the surveillance cameras and took off.

Police think it’s likely the robbers had been staking out the store.

“[He was] not just a typical shoplifter. It’s obviously a much larger deal, so it takes more planning to prepare for,” Powell said.

Store owner Harold Meuth said he’s grateful no one was hurt. But where diamonds once glittered, empty spaces now glare. Meuth fears he may have to start all over at the store that’s bared his name for the past two decades.

“There’s a word in Yiddish and I ain’t gonna say it on camera, but it ain’t good,” he said.

Police have not released a detailed description of the suspects. They are hoping to track down some of the rare coins that were stolen if they are sold.

Anyone with information is encouraged the Lewisville Police Department.
