US-POLITICS-STATE OF THE UNION

A Black-owned Oregon bakery is being accused of racism.

On Monday, The Oregonian reported outrage among customers who learned the shop was selling an Oreo cupcake that seemed to shade President Obama in a major way. Oregon City’s Fat Cupcake named the white cake product with Oreo cookie inside “Mr. President,” but swears it wasn’t being shady in doing so.

“Very troubling. They were serving a cupcake called the ‘Mr. President’ that had an Oreo cookie inside. When I tried to point out the racism implied, they claimed that ‘our current president loves Oreos,’” a Yelp reviewer pointed out.

Fox News spoke to the shop owner and she said naming the cupcake had nothing to do with race: “Anjelica Hayes, the owner of the Portland-based bake shop, says she is black and therefore the cupcake cannot be racist. She said they originally named the cupcake because it was so good they wanted it to hold public office. She later found out President Barack Obama’s favorite cookie was the Oreo.”

This isn’t the first Fat Cupcake product to come under severe scrutiny. People also criticized “The Intern,” as they thought the company was coming for Monica Lewinsky. Fat Cupcake has since changed the name of the sweet product to “The Professional.”
