Could this really happen? Is it excessive? Yes and no, after hearing what it took for the judge to reach a decision like this. 62-year-old Ivy Ray Eberhardt, a resident of Weatherford was pulled over in April of 2014 after he was driving in the wrong lane. He told the cop he drank most of the bottle of whiskey he had in the car, and pleaded guilty to DWI. That marked his 10th DWI conviction and 12th DWI arrest! He also spent time in prison for DWI offenses in several North Texas counties and a few in Colorado, where he fled after skipping bond and taking off his electronic monitor. The judge in his case said he was “a second away from hurting someone really badly” and sentenced him to life in prison.  It was only now that the court handed down the rare sentence because they had to wait for him to finish his sentence in Colorado, Assistant District Attorney Jeff Swain said.
