Hello Beautiful favorite Ava DuVernay is once again making moves, but this time she’s behind the keyboard instead of behind the camera. DuVernay and over 40 of her amazing fellow Black filmmakers are participating in a Rebel-A-Thon on Twitter to raise awareness about DuVernay’s Black film collective AAFRM (specifically the #ARRAY membership drive) and to generally have a conversation about the need for diverse voices in film.

DuVernay (who had a gorgeous collector’s edition Barbie made in her image earlier this year) is very active on all of her social media accounts, so of course a 12-hour Twitter conversation with her and a few dozens pals has been lively and engaging. Whatever your taste in movies, the people behind some of your favorite flicks are involved in this conversation. Kasi Lemmons (Eve’s Bayou),  Justin Simien (Dear White People),  Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station) and Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love and Basketball, Beyond the Lights) are just a few of the filmmakers involved in this dynamic social media event. They are not only speaking to eachother and making their own statements, but also answering questions from fans. If you are an aspiring filmmaker, this is a rare opportunity to have the ear of living legends.

Check out a few of the tweets below and hop in the conversation onTwitter using the #ARRAY hashtag by 10 pm EST tonight!!!
