Jazmine Sullivan is finally opening up on the real reason why she took a nearly four year hiatus from the music industry. Jazmine swung by The Breakfast Club early this morning to promote her new album Reality Show. Jazmine famously tweeted in 2011 she was taking a step back from music because “it wasn’t fun anymore” and she would use the time off to “figure out” things. During her interview, Jazmine confessed her sabbatical from the industry was because she was in an abusive relationship.

According to Jazmine:

I left music because I was in a really bad relationship. It had gotten abusive. Just having to deal with the industry and that my personal life was so bad, I had to go.

Jazmine also disclosed her ex-boyfriend’s inflicted mental and physical abuse upon her and slapped her so hard, she wasn’t able to hear out one of her ears. The Philly songbird stated the beating she took was a wake up call for her which prompted her to end the toxic relationship. Jamzine remarked:

I was like, ‘I might not be able to sing.’ And that kinda woke me up.

Despite the horrible pain Jazmine went through she doesn’t hold any grudges against her ex and blames being young and inexperienced for what took place. Jazmine stated:

He’s a young man and I think that we both were each other’s firsts in experiencing different things. I wish him the best, I just don’t think that we were right for each other.
