Beloved actor Meshach Taylor has passed away at the age of 67.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the “Designing Women” star died in his family’s Altadena, California, home yesterday. There had been reports earlier in the day that Meshach was already dead, but his agent Dede Binder told THR that he actually passed on in the evening.

Meshach had been terminally ill and was receiving Hospice care up until his departure. The actor’s family notified his fans on Facebook that he was dying.

“It is with love and gratitude that we sorrowfully announce that our darling, amazingly brilliant and dynamic Meshach, the incredible father, husband, son and friend, has begun his grand transition,” they wrote in a statement on Friday afternoon. “Our friends who know and love us, please offer your prayers for his peace and blazing light as he ascends to the heavens. Those who need to call the family please do. Those who desire to post memories, we are open and graciously accepting all gestures of peace.”

Meshach rose to fame while playing Sugarbaker’s Interior Design assistant Anthony Bouvier. He also hosted “The Urban Gardener” on HGTV later on in his career. He is survived by his wife Bianca Ferguson and their children, Tariq, Yasmine, Tamar and Esme.
