Jennifer Lopez performed in Turkmenistan over the weekend, and that performance drew great fire from human rights groups!

According to Dlisted, the reason for the controversy is Turkmenistan’s poor human rights record. Facebook, Twitter, most of the Internet and being openly gay is illegal in Turkmenistan and journalists have been physically and mentally tortured in the country’s prisons. Despite this, Lopez accepted $1 million to perform for the dictator, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov. Jennifer, on the other hand, claimed (through her publicist) that she had no idea about Turkmenistan’s poor human rights record. “Had there been knowledge of human rights issues any kind, Jennifer would not have attended,” the publicist said.
