The highly anticipated Liberation Tour featuring Mary J. Blige with special guests D’ Angelo and Melanie Fiona was a smashing success. Over the weekend, the tour debuted to a sold out crowd at the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia. The Queen of Hip Hop Soul reigned supreme with her performances taking fans through a musical journey by singing songs from her debut album “What’s the 411, which included the singles “Real Love” and “Sweet Thing” to her more recent album “My Life II The Journey Continues” with the singles “Mr. Wrong” and “Midnight Drive.”

Neo soul singer D’Angelo seemed right at home walking through the audience just before hitting the stage. Based on his performances, you would be surprised to know that the singer was on a prior twelve year hiatus.  D’ Angelo performed the songs that made him the ultimate sex symbol in the 90’s with the singles “Brown Sugar,” “Lady” and of course his more famous single “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” for obvious reasons.

Sultry R&B singer Melanie Fiona was the newbie of the tour, but definitely did not disappoint by pulling on the heartstrings of female fans with her singles “It Kills Me” and “4AM” bringing the audience to their feet. The Liberation Tour was a must see for young and old fans alike who were brought together for one night of good music.
