Join 97.9 The Beat at Paul Quinn College for the Justice for Trayvon Martin Rally at 12p at the Student Union Building.
Trayvon Martin, 17, was gunned down walking home from the store after purchasing Skittles and Iced-Tea by a self-appointed neighborhood watchman who deemed him as suspicious. George Zimmerman called the police on 47 different occasions before encountering an unarmed Trayvon, an African American, who was wearing a hoodie at the time of his death. Zimmerman’s 911 call was released to the public, where you can hear him being told to not “pursue” Martin. He calls the teen a “coon” and explains that he was looking at the homes of residences in the neighborhood with no apparent reason. Zimmerman claims that there have been robberies in the vicinity. The call ends with a seemingly calm Zimmerman, but we know different.
Trayvon phoned a friend moments before his death. He told her that someone was watching him and he thought he had lost him. The young woman instructed him to “run.’” She was the last person with whom he spoke.
